Because this is such a HUGE topic, I wanted to stick to 5 sneakers under $100 RETAIL, box price, and also that are sneaker classics:

Runner Up = Puma Suede and Saucony Jazz or Shadow

5 – Reebok Classic Leather – released in 1983 as a running shoe, gained popularity as a lifestyle sneaker and is still a staple today.

$75 – Soft garment leather upper gives you superior comfort. Die-cut EVA midsole provides lightweight cushioning. Molded PU sockliner adds comfort and durability.

4 – Vans Old Skool –
$60 –released in 1977 the Old Skool, debuts with the now famous Vans Sidestripe. The Old Skool is Vans’ first skate shoe that incorporated leather panels for increased durability. What started as a random doodle by Paul Van Doren was originally referred to as the “jazz stripe” and has become the unmistakable hallmark of the Vans brand.
Other favorites are the Authentics and Slip Ons, but no matter what you choose, Vans can be a great option for a durable, reliable, affordable sneaker!

3- Adidas Stan Smith or Superstar
$75 Stans released in 1960s, but actually wasn’t called the stan smith until 1973 (do you know what it was originally called? Leave a comment!). $80 Superstars released in 1969 (aka Shell Toe)
When you think of essential sneakers especially by Adidas, both of these sneakers come to mind.

You may think of Superstars as THOT shoes, but I remember them from the RunDMC era, Bboys and fat laces.

1 for tennis, 1 for basketball, both consumed for lifestyle and are modern day successes for the brand. Many people that I know own either pair of these, and they probably can’t name 5 other Adidas models, but they know these, and that is the power of these in modern culture.

2 – Air Force 1
$90 released in 1982, it was the first nike basketball shoe with Nike Air. * I did a very detailed vid on the AF1 here for the history

This was a revolutionary hoop shoe in the 80s, but has relevancy in today’s culture still. 2017 complexcon featured many collabs with the iconic model. For those deep rooted with the sneaker, they have a number of limited colorways through the 90s, but they also have the white on white in stock everywhere always as well. They hit the proper stride in hype and availability which is why this shoe continues to be a mainstay.

1 – Converse Chuck Taylor All Star
$40! Released in the 1920s as a non-skid basketball shoe. It was not until 1949 that Converse decided to make the toe guard, laces and outer wraps white, which gave the appearance of the iconic black and white Converse All Stars of today. The Converse Chuck Taylor All Star is #1 spot because these are a staple beyond sneaker culture but also very welcome within. If you walk around any grade school, middle school, high school, or college, you will see people wearing chucks in an array of different canvas styles and patterns. These are the epitome of essential.
